| Straddling a narrow strip of land between mountains and the Yangtze, Shibaozhai Temple, a 12-tier wooden pavilion, is a gem of Chinese architecture. The temple, whose name means Stone Treasure Stronghold, is an incredible feat of engineering, having been built without any nails. In the rear hall, you will learn the legend Rice Flowing Hole, a small hole in one of the walls that produced a steady trickle of rice. When the monks became greedy and attempted to make the hole larger, the rice flow ceased forever.
