Morocco Caravane tour begins with a full day guided city tour of Marrakech. The capital of the south, Marrakech is an enchanting city and one of the country’s most popular destinations. The tour of the “Red City” will begin with the world-famous Jema El Fna Square, which houses an array of food, snake charmers, local musicians, and fortune-tellers. Next, stop at the 12th century Koutoubia Minaret. We will also visit the Bahia Palace and the Saadian Tombs. Lunch in the hotel and visit of the old medina with its bustling souks in the afternoon. Dinner with fantazia and folklore. Overnight in Marrakech. ( B, D )
Day 4: Marrakech, Essaouira, Marrakech
Leave Marrakech after breakfast heading to the charming big town of Essaouira. Essaouira used to be occupied by the Portuguese and used to be called the city of Mogador. It was fortified by a French fan of architect Vauban and it used to have a large Jewish population. These influences made the city unique and attractive, and today, it is gradually becoming a city of artists and intellectuals thanks to all these influences. Essaouira has a very favourable microclimate which gives it a mild winter and a cool summer. Also to be mentioned, the city has a beautiful beach protected by the surrounding islands. Spend most of your time there at leisure before heading back to Marrakech for dinner overnight. ( B, D )
Day 5: Marrakech, Ouarzazate
After breakfast, leave Marrakech to Ouarzazate along the magnificent Tizi In Tichka pass through the High Atlas Mountains. Stop at the spectacular fortress of Ait Ben Haddou, the iconic landscape immortalized in such films as, Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and Alexander. Transfer to Ouarzazate, also known as “Morocco’s Hollywood,” for dinner and overnight. ( B, D )
Day 6: Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Merzouga
Continue the Morocco Cravane tour in the city of Ouarzazate with the Taourir Kasbahs, which is considered to be among the most beautiful Kasbahs in Morocco. Next, enjoy an optional visit to the film studios where some of the most famous desert landscapes were and are still being shot. Leave Ouarzazate to Tinghir through Dades valley. Tinghir is a gorgeous, 40km oasis, which boasts one of the largest palm groves in the country. Walk above the Todra Gorge, a 300m wall, carved deep into the High Atlas Mountains, then transfer to Merzouga for dinner and overnight. ( B, D )
Day 7: Merzouga, Midelt, Ifrane, Fes
Take an optional sunrise camel ride along the golden sand dunes in Merzouga. Then return to the auberge for breakfast before driving to Midelt through the Ziz Valley and passing through a series of fortified villages. Stop in Midelt for an optional lunch then continue along to Azrou and Ifrane. Azrou is widely known for its handcraft cooperative and Ifrane, nicknamed “Morocco’s Switzerland,” is a charming ski town populated by European-style chalets. Continue the tour to Fes for dinner and overnight. ( B, D )
Day 8: Fes City Tour
Begin your tour of Fes with a visit to the royal palace and the mellah. The latter is considerably older than the ones at Meknes and Rabat, having been built in the 15th century. At one time, it housed over 10,000 people, 40 synagogues, the Bet Din, communal ovens, ritual baths, and schools. The city tour of Fes will also include Jamaa Al-Karaouine––the world’s first established university––and the Medersa Bouanania, not to mention the tanneries, clay workshops, artisan quarters, and souks of largest and oldest medina in Morocco. Dinner and overnight in Fes. ( B, D )
Day 9: Fes, Volubilis, Meknes, Rabat
